Hi Anna,

Thanks a lot for the instructions, please see the attached of both lync 2010 and 2013, 2010 has an option for adding IP cameras as a video device but 2013 doesn't. This would limit us from using IP cameras for conferencing.

Thanks

Ok, after trying all of the things Caronna tried and trying the windows 8.1 clean boot the issue was still not resolved.  At this point i restored by computer back to December 12th (a date i knew it was working) and lync started working.  After installing all windows updates again, everything seems to be working normally.  There were 4 updates i had to re install,  i am guessing the original issue stemmed from one of the 4.  They were:

KB2817306 - Viso

KB2907566 - Endpoint protection 2012 Client

KB2903939 - Windows 8.1 for X64

Also Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool for windows 8, 8.1 update

Strangely, it has been working great since I posted this question. Perhaps complaining fixes things ? :-)

Hi Anna,

After trying several more things with no success, such as disabling Bluetooth drivers.   I uninstalled KB2903939 - Windows 8.1 for X64 as Akampa noted, but that didn't resolved my problem.  Instead of trying to do more troubleshooting, I just resorted to what Akampa did and restored back to 12/9, which was just prior to a bunch of updates that installed to my machine on 12/11.

That seems to have resolved my Lync problem!  I suggest you guys do some further research into the updates as apparently something in the updates at that time killed my Lync.

I haven't reapplied the updates, but will do that shortly, and fingers crossed, my Lync will still be functional.

Thanks for following up.  I'll post back if the updates break Lync again, and will provide you with a list of all the updates that get applied.

Thanks!

Hi Jony,

Thanks for your screenshots.

Sorry that I don’t have an IP camera, so I cannot do the test from my side to check if the IP camera is supported in Lync 2013. Also, there is no official document mentioned that. If it is possible, could you find another computer (has installed Lync 2013) to check if the IP camera can work in that computer?

Moreover I have done some test from my side, and I can use an external camera in both Lync 2010 and Lync 2013.

Thanks for your time and efforts on this issue.

Best Regards,
Anna Shi

Hi Anna,

None of the Lync 2013 has any option to add IP camera, I have tried 10 computers in our organization. Even Skype has this option.

Thanks

Jony

Hi Vikas,

Here is the article about the meeting room devices for Lync Online:catalog.lync.com/.../index.aspx

The article lists some devices that are tested and qualified for Lync Online. Regarding this device you mentioned, I find there is no official article about whether it is compatible with Lync Online currently. I feel sorry that I cannot provide detailed steps about how to use this device with Lync Online.

Moreover, if our community members have related experience about this device, I will appreciate it if they can share some information here.

Best regards,

Young

1. We are currently using office 2007.

2. Yes, I have tried reinstalling it numerous times, but the same error keeps popping up.

1. I checked all audio and video drivers and they all appear to be up to date.

2. I am not able to currently due a clean boot without getting with my IT dept further, as we have programs running for our firm that I would not want to conflict with.

3. I have tried repairing Office 2007 and Lync 2013, but this has not changed anything.

I am currently running Lync 2010 without a problem. But as I am not able to add anyone new to my contact list, I am trying to get the update working. Are there any other suggestions that I should check?

Hi Jony,

Thanks for your time to do the test.

From your test result, the IP camera that you are using may be not supported in Lync 2013 client. We are so sorry for that. I fully understand it would be nice if the IP camera could be available in Lync 2013 client. I recommend you submit feedback about the requirement to our product team. With your feedback, our engineers can get more familiar with your need and further improve our product. Actually, many features of current programs have been designed and upgraded based on customers’ feedback. Hopefully the IP camera can be supported in Lync 2013 client in the feature releases. Thanks for your understanding.

Best Regards,
Anna Shi

Hi RDutcher,

Thanks for your updates.

Since you are using Office 2007, I would like to confirm some more information:
1. Whether the versions of Lync are Lync 2013 Basic and Lync 2010 Trial? Did you download them from Microsoft?
2. Whether you have both Lync 2013 and Lync 2010 installed on the computer?  If so, I suggest uninstalling Lync 2010 to see if Lync 2013 can work, because multiple versions of Lync installed on the same computer may lead to some potential issues while running one or another.

Moreover, the result got in the clean boot mode is very important for narrowing down the cause of this issue, please provide us with it when you’re able to work with your IT. Thanks for your understanding.

For the issue related to Lync 2010, do you get any error message when you try adding a contact? If you get the error message saying “Cannot add, move, or remove contacts or groups at this time. Please try again later”, it is the issue that Lync 2010 doesn’t understand where to update the Unified Contact Store for it is deployed between Microsoft Exchange 2013 and Lync Server 2013. As a workaround, we can update contacts in Outlook. The KB http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2757458 is for your reference.

Lee Li
